Outages

When your power goes off, there are a few things you can do to help us in restoring your power as quickly as possible.

What to Do If Your Power Goes Out

If you experience a power outage, a few quick checks can help us restore your service as safely and quickly as possible:

Before calling, please check the following:

  • Your electric meter. If there is a display the issue is likely on the member's side. If there is no display, please call to report.
  • Your electrical panel (breaker or fuse box) to see if a breaker has tripped or a fuse has blown.
  • Do your neighbors have power? Knowing whether the outage is widespread or limited to your location can help us pinpoint the problem faster.

Reporting an Outage

Please call the Cooperative office at 315-893-1851 to report an outage. This number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please DO NOT email or use Facebook Messenger to report an outage.

  • During normal business hours (7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday), you will speak directly with a Cooperative Member Services Representative.
  • After hours, weekends, and holidays, your call will be handled by our Dispatching Service.

When reporting an outage, please be ready to provide:

  • Your name and telephone number
  • Your map location number (found on your bill, identifying series of alpha-numeric characters that help the line crew find your service. The first letter tells you which line you're on and therefore which substation you receive power from. Example: A= Eaton Substation, B, C, D= Oriskany Falls Substation, F, G= Fenner Substation)
  • Any helpful details, such as a tree on the power lines, "I heard a loud pop", etc.

This information is recorded and immediately forwarded to Cooperative personnel.

Important Reminders

  • Stay away from downed power lines and warn others to do the same. Lines may remain energized- even if they are on the ground.
  • Once your outage is reported, there is no need to call back unless power was restored and then went out again.
  • Check our Facebook page for outage updates and information. If you do not have Facebook, you can find the news feed at the bottom of our home page on this website.

Please understand that we do not always know the exact cause of an outage or the estimated time of restoration right away. When our crews are actively working in the field, they are not in contact with the office- this is for their safety and for yours.

Any available updates will be shared as soon as we receive them. If information seems limited, it’s not because we are withholding details; it’s simply because we do not yet have them.

Whenever an outage occurs, you can be assured that Oneida-Madison Electric Cooperative crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore your power.
