A
transfer switch is used to transfer load from the Co-ops power lines to a
standby power source your generator. The transfer switch is designed to isolate the Co-ops lines from
the generator to avoid backfeed to the power lines.
Linemen
who are working to restore power during an outage, or anyone who contacts a
downed power line, could be seriously injured or killed by backfeed from an
improperly installed generator. An approved transfer switch must be installed before you attempt to
use your generator. Contact Oneida-Madison Electric Cooperatives office at (315)
893-1851 with
any questions you may have.
